Hola! I’m Deborah Curiel, a Mexican designer and illustrator that loves to incorporate happy, vibrant colors and to celebrate nature and my culture in my work. The main tools I use for creating are my iPad Pro + Apple pencil + Procreate and I’m always exploring new ways to develop my art.
I'm more of a night owl, so I like to start my mornings slow with a nice breakfast and a latte (bonus points if there is some kind of bread involved). A good playlist and a tidy studio gets my creative juices flowing so I love to be in a well decorated space and use my headphones to work.
My main source of inspiration is my culture. I'm from Mexico and have always admired it's richness, as color and nature are what inspire me the most, and this is also highlighted in the work of artisans all around the country.
Nature helps to bring me back and ground myself, so I feel better around trees, flowers and vegetation. Also spending time with my family nurtures my soul. I love to travel and every new place gives me inspiration, but if I had to choose I'd go to Morocco because of the beautiful tile work they have.
I live 30 min away from the beach in hot and sunny Mérida, México. So when I need to escape I like to go there to feel the breeze and hear the wave sounds.
I worked as a Cultural Representative in Disney World for a year and it was so much fun!
My go-to coffee shop order is a Chai latte with almond milk
If I could have dinner with any person living or passed I would have dinner with my grandmother because she was the #1 fan of my work. I would like to show her how much I've accomplished and I miss her so much!
